The following Terms and Agreements (T&A) outline the rules and agreements for the use of the Elasmobranch Project Indonesia (EPI) website, located at https://elasmobranch.id/, including the privacy policy, data submission, data usage, and content and intellectual property.
Before submitting your encounter photograph and data to EPI, please read the following T&A.
Definitions
The following terminology applies to this T&A:
- The “you”, “your”, or “yours” refers to you, the respectable individual who will submit their elasmobranch report data to EPI.
- “We”, “Our”, and “Us” refer to EPI.
- “Contributor” refers to individuals who submit their photograph and data about elasmobranch encounters to EPI.
- Requester refers to students, researchers, organizations, government bodies, and other parties deemed suitable and approved by EPI to use the data from the citizen science platform to do research and support the conservation of elasmobranch in Indonesia.
- “Website” refers to EPI’s official website, accessible at https://elasmobranch.id/
- “Report data” refers to photographs and other information on elasmobranch encounters that you submit to EPI’s citizen science platform
General
This T&A applies to every report data submitted to our website. Your agreement with this T&A is required each time a new photograph and data are to be submitted. If, under any circumstances, you do not agree with any content of the T&A, please refrain from submitting your photograph and data to EPI.We might change, add, or remove content in this T&A. If this happens, Contributors will be notified via email about the changes. Photographs and data submitted before August 2026 follow the policy of the previous version(s). If any previously submitted data need to be updated to comply with the revised policy, we will notify you by email.
Changes in the T&A will be guaranteed not to infringe or violate the Contributors’ previous photographs' copyright.
Privacy Policy
Any personal information submitted, except for name or full name, which will be used to credit the Contributor’s photograph, will remain confidential. We may use your contact information (email and/or phone) to contact you regarding your report data and to share announcements and relevant information regarding our citizen science project via email.
Providing additional personal information such as date of birth, affiliation, occupation, and location information is optional. If you choose to provide this information, we may use it for demographic analysis to understand our Contributor community and use it as a basis for developing new programs in the future.
Data Submission
Your report data needs to be as complete, accurate, and aligned with the guide provided on the “Guidelines” page. We have the right to edit and modify your data to enhance and standardize its accuracy and quality to meet scientific requirements.
Your photograph and a portion of your data will only be accepted and displayed on the “ Explore Map” page after being deemed acceptable by us. Whether the report data are acceptable or not will be notified to you via email, with notes of the reason why your report data may be unacceptable.
Accepted data will then be displayed on our “Encounter Gallery” page. You will be able to see all the report data you have submitted in your Dashboard. Once submitted and verified, you cannot change or remove the data unless you send an email request to epi@elasmobranch.id.
Content and Intellectual Property
You own the copyright to your photograph and report data; at the same time, you agree to share it limitedly with the general public and “Requester”. Each report data you submit will be credited using your name or full name according to the information filled out at the time the report data is submitted. You may or may not be notified if your report data has been used.
Providing data that does not invade any intellectual property rights is your responsibility. Make sure the photograph and data you will submit do not violate or infringe the copyright of any other individual or your affiliation/workplace. We are not responsible for any claims, damages, or disputes arising from the data and information you submit.
Data Usage
Submitted report data is to be used, when appropriate, by either EPI or the Requester in any form of publication. Acknowledgement of the data used in any form of publication may not mention the name of each submitter individually, but as “Contributor”. When your photograph is to be used in any form of publication, your name will be attached in the picture as a credit mark.
